Surgery in the standing horse. 1: Orthopedic surgical procedures. IPH/DDD-Kursus.

The participants will gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills on how to approach the standing surgery and in the performing of several relevant surgical interventions in the limb of the standing horse.


The theoretical part will represent 45 % of the course while the practical part will represent 55 % of the course.

- The lectures will be focussed around the following topics:

* Decision making: when is standing surgery an option?
* Applied limb anatomy of relevant sites
* Sedation and analgesia, including regional and local analgesia in the standing horse
* Wound management on the standing horse
* Joint lavage on the standing horse
* Regional antibiosis
* Standing surgery on selected foot conditions
* Corrective shoeing after standing foot surgery
* Tendon and ligament surgery: What is possible on the standing horse?

- Wet labs:

* Local analgesia regimens for standing limb surgery
* Standing foot surgery and corrective shoeing
* Surgical procedures of tendons and ligaments
* Procedures for joint lavage and regional antibiosis


Deltagere
The course is intended for equine practitioners, who want an update on standing surgical procedures relevant for equine orthopedic surgery under practice conditions. The course language will be English. Maximum number of participants is limited to 16, minimum is 12.
